About lizziesmom2012

I'm a grandmother of three, living in Huntsville, Alabama. I've been cooking just about my whole life. In fact, I baked my first blackberry pie at age 5. Now, I didn't say that pie was good. It was barely edible, but it was pretty because I rolled that crust out over and over until it looked to be perfect. Cooking is a learning curve! Menu planning is a learning curve, too, and that's why I'm here. You can write perfect looking menu plans all day long, but life happens and that perfect looking menu plan can get a little tough to chew. Using the Sticky Menu Plan may not be perfect, but it works. The less we waste, the more we have.

The week to come

This coming week is going to be hectic with commitments almost every day. The Sticky Menu Plan will be put to the test! Let’s see how many of my planned meals are actually prepared.
I didn’t find any great deals on meat in the ads this week, but my friend Carol told me about some unmodified chicken breasts that are available at a good price at one of the warehouse stores We’ll work with those, starting with Big Spring Jam Greek Chicken Salad. For Meatless Monday I’ve developed a new recipe for Chiles Rellenos Casserole. We thought it was pretty tast and very filling. I already have an alternate recipe for Friday if it rains and we can’t grill out. We’ll just have Tuna Salad Salads instead of Spicy Grilled Tuna.
I’m ready for some pretty spring weather, but a little rain helps the tomato plants we just put in. Be grateful for what life gives you.

This week’s recap

I guess this week I made some progress, but there’s a lot more to do.
As far as my Sticky Menu goes, I guess it realy worked. Meatless Monday didn’t happen because of Nolene, but because the broccoli was in the freezer it didn’t matter. I came up with a couple of good recipes for the leftover ham. See Hash Brown Breakfast Cups and Spring Time Manicotti.  I also managed to make a batch of Homemade Banana Pudding.  Friday’s shrimp recipe got slid to today, but for once I have plenty of time and THAT’S A GOOD THING! Be thankful for what life gives you.

It’s Late

It’s late, and we’ve had a busy day, but I promised Aaron I’d add my Father’s Peanut Butter Cookie recipe. So this one’s for you, Jen. I hope you’ll make them soon. OK, Aaron, now it’s your turn!

Happy Easter

Check stuff out. I’m not yet ready to go public, but I’m close. How do I let folks know that the recipe section will be expanding? I want people to keep checking back for new recipes and ideas, not for fame, but just to know that I’m not just humoring myself. Well, maybe I am just humoring myself! But it’s fun to try to learn a new skill. I may be 60, but I’m not ready to be old yet. Back to “work”.

Happy Camper

Today I’m a happy camper! I finally found a way to move a recipe from my files into my blog. I had to go the long way around, and I’m sure there must be an easier way, but I did it through a combination of email and evernote. If you’d like to see my pitiful first attempt (kept intentionally to a short recipe) just click on this link to Baked Ham.

Next up…Widgets!

maybe we’re getting somewhere

Thanks to Aaron’s help I maybe getting close to functional. At least I may be able to open this blog up to the public and expose my own stupidity along with a menu idea or two. Now I have to work on the widgets. Hmmm…

The same problems continue

I’m getting a little frustrated, mostly with my own stupidity! I should be able to figure this all out. Is the same stupid image going to appear on every page? That thought occured to me this morning. If that’s the case I really do have to change some things. Let’s see…

The first hurdle

The first hurdle is to figure out how this home page needs to be corrected.  It only shows up once, and I don’t like the image.  It needs to be cropped.  I made a little headway yesterday, but nothing has been resolved.  Here goes!

It’s a learning curve

I’m a slow learner, but I believe if I keep working on getting this blog set up the way I want it will be easy to share the ideas that are ratteling around in my head.
