These are best when grilled over charcoal, but one can certainly cook them stove top.
For the burgers:
8 oz ground pork
8 oz ground beef
1 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp fennel seed
1 tsp red pepper flakes
4 slices provolone cheese
4 hamburger rolls
For the topping:
1 tsp olive oil
1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
1/2 medium onion, sliced
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 cup marinara sauce
1. In a medium bowl combine the ground meats and spice. Divide into 4 portions and form into patties with a depression in the center.
2. Prepare the grill with the charcoal to one side, creating hot and warm zones.
3. While the grill is heating make the topping. In a non-stick skillet saute the peppers and onions in the olive oil until barely tender. Add the marinara and heat through.
4. On the grill, sear the burgers 2 minutes on each side over the hot coals, then move to the warm zone and cook 5 minutes longer, or to the desired temperature. Top with cheese and immediately remove to the bottom of the buns.
5. Divide the pepper and onion sauce evenly among the burgers and add the top of the bun.
