This is really an all-purpose barbecue sauce. While the ingredient list is long, you probably have most on hand and the sauce is very easy to make.
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 Tbsp minced garlic
3 medium jalapeño peppers, seeded and minced
1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup cider vinegar
3/4 cup chili sauce
1 cup barbecue sauce (without high fructose corn syrup)
1 Tbsp mustard powder
1 Tbsp paprika
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp hot sauce
2 Tbsp molasses
1 tsp salt
1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with the oil. Add the onion, bell pepper, garlic, and jalapeños and sauté until the onion is tender.
2. Stir in the brown sugar and remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low, and simmer 10 minutes.
3 .Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a bowl, discarding solids. Transfer the sauce to a clean quart jar and refrigerate if not using immediately.
