To my way of thinking, a mellon baller doesn’t deserve the real estate it occupies in my kitchen drawer. It is basically a relic of the 1960’s when tediously composed fruit salads were the rage. Why do I still have it? I don’t know. It’s a good thing that I have plenty of kitchen drawers. I do occasionally use it to hollow out zucchini and once every couple of years I use it to scoop out truffles. That’s about it. I could replace it for about $5.00.
