Blueberries truly are a superfood, high in so many antioxidents and vitamins, but low in calories. They can be used fresh or frozen in too many recipes to count and are delicious just eaten out of hand.
Look for firm plump berries with a powdery blush. Avoid any that look the least bit shriveled, (old) or pink, (unripe).
Now available year round in the produce department, fresh blueberries can be a bit pricey. Frozen berries are often an acceptable alternative, and less expensive. If you have the chance to pick your own, blueberries are easy to freeze. Just pick through them to remove stems, debris, and inferior berries. Flash freeze them on a tray, then bag for long term storage.
